Holy Rosary – My Source of Courage

From my earliest days, the Rosary was woven into the very fabric of our family life. Each evening, when the day’s work was done, our little carpenter’s home in a small town in Kerala, India, became a place of prayer.
We gathered around our small wooden altar — with its crucifix and images of Jesus, Mary, and St. Joseph — and we prayed together as a family.
The Rosary was always at the heart of these evenings. Bead by bead, prayer by prayer, we lifted our voices to heaven. For us, the Rosary was not just a devotion. It was a lifeline.

A Child’s Faith in the Rosary

As a little boy, I did not always understand the mysteries we prayed. But I understood one thing very well: when we prayed the Rosary, peace filled our home.
I saw the tears in my grandmother’s eyes as she prayed. I felt the strength in my grandfather’s voice when he led the decades. Even in our poverty, I knew that Our Lady was with us, and that gave me courage.
Whenever I felt weak in school or troubled by worries, I held the Rosary tightly, as if I were holding the hand of the Blessed Mother.

Growing in Strength

Over the years, I discovered the Rosary’s true power.

  • During difficult exams, I prayed the Rosary for help.
  • When fear filled my heart, I found calmness in its rhythm.
  • In moments of loneliness, the Rosary reminded me that the Holy Mother was by my side.
The Rosary gave me courage when I had none of my own. It was like a shield against despair and a torch that lit my way.

The Rosary Today

Even now, as an adult, the Rosary remains my daily companion. Whenever life feels heavy, I turn to those beads and find peace. Each “Hail Mary” is a step closer to Jesus, held by His Mother’s hand.
I often tell young people: "The Rosary is not old-fashioned. It is powerful. It is alive. It is the prayer that can change your life, just as it changed mine.

My Source of Courage

If there is one devotion that has carried me from boyhood until today, it is the Holy Rosary. It gave me courage when I was poor and weak. It gives me courage now as I strive to live out my mission.

The Rosary is truly the chain of love that binds me to the Blessed Mother — and through her, to her Son, Jesus

Closing Prayer

O Blessed Mother, thank You for the gift of the Rosary. Teach me to love it more each day. May every “Hail Mary” bring me closer to Your Son, and may the Rosary be my strength in every trial, my courage in every fear, and my song of joy in every blessing. Amen.
